Become a Coach or Volunteer and Make a Difference

Our Philosophy

Without caring mentors, positive youth development just docoachimpact_optesn’t happen. At First Tee, we take coaching seriously. We believe that a meaningful, quality relationship between coach and participant is vital to our program. “Young people don’t always care what a coach knows until they know a coach cares.” As you consider volunteering for our chapter, know that the safety of our kids is our first priority. Please read our Prevention Policies to see how we conduct programs and activities at our chapter. Prevention Policy

We are Looking for You!

Nationwide, we currently have more than 3,700 coaches signed up with First Tee, including PGA and LPGA pros, as well as volunteers. But you don’t have to be a golf pro or even a good golfer. With First Tee Coach Program, we provide the training you need. Developed with input from leading experts in the field of positive youth development, our program focuses on empowering participants through decision-making and exploring options. This helps foster positive relationships between coaches and young people, inspiring the golfers of tomorrow to look to the future, set goals, and unlock their potential.

Make an Impact off the Course

We need more than coaches to make First Tee possible. We rely on Volunteers — sometimes year round — to accomplish our mission, and not all of those goals involve golf; we need support off the course as well. Opportunities include:
  • Fundraising/Events
  • Operations/Administration
  • Mentoring/Tutoring
  • In-school programming
By contributing your time and talent, you can directly make an impact in a young person’s life.

Begin the Process of becoming a Volunteer

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer/assistant coach with our chapter must first complete the volunteer application / engagement form.  Please click here to complete the volunteer application / engagement form. Once this form is completed and received, our Executive staff will review it and contact you to begin the screening process, which may include a face to face meet and greet or telephone call to further discuss your skills and interests. Our chapter office requires that a criminal background check be run on all volunteer prospects so all applicants are eventually asked to sign an authorization form that allows our chapter to proceed with background check and character references. You will also receive training about your volunteer or coaching role, behavioral expectations, and child protection.

Coaches Trained to Positively Impact Youth!

A trained coach can positively impact more youth in a year than an average person does in a lifetime. All of our volunteers, assistant coaches and Level 1 coaches complete the Assistant Coach Training eLearning course developed by First Tee as a first step in the training process. Hands-on trainings are conducted one-to-one or in groups throughout the year to further train our volunteers, assistant coaches and lead coaches. The primary goal of the ACT training and hands-on trainings is to equip coaches with resources and techniques so they can positively impact the youth we are privileged to serve here.
