School Program

First Tee's School Program introduces the game of golf and First Tee's Nine Core Values and Nine Healthy Habits to elementary students during physical education classes. Currently introduced to more than 5,300 elementary schools across the United States, the school program creates an environment where young people are introduced to the lifelong sport of golf, while learning basic motor skills and the inherent values of the game.

Program Objectives

  • Provide a complete golf program appropriate for today's elementary school physical education students and teachers.
  • Enable physical educators to introduce golf consistent with national standards developed by NASPE.
  • Develop student appreciation for the positive personal and social values associated with the game of golf.
  • Engage students in daily lesson activities that lead to motor skill development.
  • Present golf to students as a lifelong recreation and physical fitness activity.

Equipment

A safe, effective school program requires modified equipment that fits movement and muscle coordination typical with that of beginners. Early success and fun are the keys to creating interest for the game. This can be best accomplished by maintaining the attention of the learners during each session without causing high levels of frustration. The equipment utilized as part of the First Tee School Program is SNAG, Starting New At Golf. SNAG equipment is modified and developmentally appropriate golf equipment consisting of over-sized clubs, tennis-style balls and a variety of targets. Each school set contains enough equipment to work with up to 48 students at a time.

Since 2015, Spring Lake Magnet and Nelson Mandela Magnet Elementary Schools led the way in offering the First Tee School Program!

With the collaborative efforts of First Tee - Omaha and the Spring Lake staff headed by Physical Education leader, Aimee Noel, our School Program touches over 150 students, annually. States Mrs. Noel, "Being a Physical Education Teacher, I look for different curriculum that can provide an enriched opportunity for all my student. The First Tee has done that for my students. They have given a well balanced curriculum dealing with social skills, healthy habits, and a sprinkle of golf skills and knowledge. I utilize this program for my K-4th graders and have found much benefit for all of them. I would recommend The First Tee to any Physical Educator who wants a sound curriculum that follows our National Organization, Shape and its standards. We are forever indebted to Aimee for her commitment, passion and efforts to successfully implement our National School Program at Spring Lake Magnet Elementary." Aimee's endorsement crystallizes the impact our School Program can make on today's youth," says Jeff Porter, Executive Director of First Tee - Omaha.
